Fade to Black

24”x48”
Acrylic on canvas
Created 2011

Interpretation of cultural changes and the loss of things once valued from the 20th century to 2011.

Top: Medication has replaced the desire for internal reflection
Center: Television: The on/off switch has been renamed “power” and control is remote and distant. In the painting the television screen shows a black & white image diminishing into the background, like the signing off of programming.
Bottom:  Colors often associated with romance and commitment fade due to social, geographic expansion, and cultural expectations.
